This is how our minds work

Be afraid.

Val and I were messaging last night, and decided that we didn't want to go with "Swaggon" again for the van this year. They don't run the commercials anymore, and it's just 'so last year.' So we were left in the position that the non-van riding people were: trying to think of a name for our transportation. Yes, we could travel without naming our van, but where's the fun in that?

I suggested that since all 3 vehicles driving up on that same day were without names, we should go with a set of names that somehow go together. The first set of names to come to mind was Larry, Moe, and Curly. Kas said that when TJ drives up that weekend we can call his car Shemp. Ha! Then I suggested the Three Amigos, though I couldn't remember their names at the time. We led a rather sheltered childhood, and this was one of the racier movies we were allowed to watch. Plus, we had it on VHS, so we watched it a LOT. We had quite a laugh at that, and as I chuckled I googled. Lucky Day, Dusty Bottoms, and Ned Nederlander. Of course, the most memorable character is the bad guy, El Guapo.

Val and I claimed Ned - especially since we can even FURTHER obscure the name by calling it "Ned NederVANder" instead. Kas chose Dusty Bottoms for the truck, leaving Teresa & Mike with Lucky Day. TJ can be El Guapo when he drives up. He didn't find that NEARLY as funny as we all did, though.

Consider this your warning. I don't know how far the whole movie thing will go, so prepare yourself. This could easily spiral totally out of control...especially if we learn the salute before we leave.

Hooray for planning ahead!

I was just verifying our van rental online - AAA has updated their reservation system since I placed it, so I had to jump through no end of hoops to get it done. Not that I broke a sweat or anything, but it was really annoying. I made the reservation in early September, which was the earliest I could make it. I like to plan ahead, what can I say? So at the time, the van was $350ish/week. I decided to see how much it would cost to make the same reservation now - $999.99/week! Holy crap!! Now I want to try again closer to vacation to see how much it will be then. I realize it's not really saving me any more money, but it still makes me feel better.

2011 Trip

For our next trip, we'll be gathering up friends and family and driving back to Maggie Vally, NC. We've found a beautiful cabin that will hold us all, and plan to spend a week playing in the mountains. All three Tucker girls are involved this time, so expect even more shenanigans, hijinks, and LOADS more wisdumb. :)
